The best local coffee shops in Northern Kentucky

By Chelsie Hicks · October 21, 2026

When I'm showing homes, coffee is a big part of how I get to know a neighborhood. These are my favorite independent coffee shops across Northern Kentucky, plus what to order. No chains on this list.

Carabello Coffee

Newport · Campbell County

A local roaster and one of the best-known coffee shops in the area, with a calm space and a coffee bar that takes it seriously. My order: the s'mores cappuccino.

Velocity Bike & Bean

Burlington · Boone County

Half coffee shop, half bike shop, and the seasonal lattes rotate all the time. In the fall, get the caramel corn latte.

The Hive East Coast Kitchen & Coffee Bar

Erlanger · Kenton County

Family-owned spot for coffee plus breakfast and lunch, with a coworking space you can reserve. The Beekeeper's Bowl is the move.

Fort Thomas Coffee

Fort Thomas · Campbell County

A true community spot with guest roasters, local art and sandwiches. They also put on the Fort Thomas Pumpkin Walk every fall.

Reality Tuesday Café

Park Hills · Kenton County

Known for its iced coffee and pastries, right by Devou Park. Perfect before a walk with the best view of the Cincinnati skyline.

Left Bank Coffeehouse

Covington · Kenton County

Cozy, a little quirky and full of character, with baked goods from local vendors. A great Covington stop.

Enlightenment Coffee

Walton · Boone County

Worth the drive south. People rave about the honey lavender latte.

The Black Goose

Union · Boone County

A coffee lounge inside an antique shop, so you can sip and browse. Try the triple berry latte.

Coffee shop + neighborhood tour

If you're thinking about moving here, a coffee shop is one of the best ways to get a feel for an area. Grab a drink in Fort Thomas and walk down the avenue, start a Saturday in Newport and cross the Purple People Bridge, or hit Velocity before checking out neighborhoods in Burlington and Union.

Have a favorite I missed? Send it my way. I'm always looking for a new spot.
